how many carats is that?

in love with cocktail rings at the moment

cannot stop purchasing them

fear i do not have enough fingers to accommodate them all

but with the chunky size, a gem on top makes things a bit cumbersome

answer? go 2D!

so perhaps i can make space in the collection for these beauties!

available at Mixko Boutique

christmas styling

inspiring images for your next christmas deco as featured on a beautiful swedish emma's design blog

if i was that little girl, i too would be feeling well pleased with my gorgeous (and how daring) pink surrounds! isn't her facial expression adorable?

you cannot fault the swedish aesthetic - it is just stunning!

and to think that all we are exposed to is just what ikea has to offer. if i went to sweden i might faint with the sheer joy of seeing so much beauty everywhere...does everyone's homes look this amazing?
i want those paper star lanterns too - where oh where can i get some of those?

a winter christmas

you know how we sing 'chestnuts roasting on an open fire' but it is actually quite hard to associate with as i sit here on a 35 degree searing hot summer day?

well in Lisbon and Paris they actually do have 'chestnuts roasting on an open fire' - with the smoke and scent wafting in the cobblestoned streets, beautifully lit up with festive Christmas decorations.

it really encapsulates the festive season.

two days to go til Christmas all!

Bite Size Cake Balls

Been thinking about what to bake for Christmas! I think I've found a finalist. Bite Size Cake Balls by Bakerella. You basically make a cake, cook it and crumble it all up in a bowl. Add cream cheese frosting (what is that??! I don't think we have that in Australia...I'll have to think of what to substitute that with...and mix it all well. Then roll into little balls and chill. Dip in Melted choccy and chill again. Done...sounds easy...but very messy...

I'm excited!

ingenious lunch packaging

i think this speaks for itself, doesn't it?

not that this is an issue i encounter at my own workplace but i also imagine that this could get my lunch thrown out by some of the staff who are very enthusiastic and brutal work fridge cleaners!

Lisbon cafes part 1 - Kaffeehaus, Chiado

Just returned from a wonderful whirlwind tour of Lisbon and stumbled across some delightful cafes that would be a pleasure to have as my own local haunt back here at home.

Wei my travel companion told me I had a special skill at finding hidden cafe treasures while we were overseas - it was a skill much needed too because the blog world had not revealed these specials to me unlike Paris! So I promised I would add these to our blog instead.

The first to mention was a true accidental find as we scurried through the tres chic shopping district of Chiado in the rain looking for a brunch venue. We had attempted a few of the 'tourist' hot spots written about in the Lonely Planet but we were completely ignored by the staff (which I have to say is very unusual for the friendly and hospitable Portugese!) Furthermore, in keeping with the pattern thus far, that guide book has far from revealed the trendy side of Lisbon and hence we left two cafes in our wake!

But then we struck gold.

Kaffeehaus is an Austrian cafe tucked away off the main drag in Chiado, near the Metro and the Teatro San Carlos. It wasn't even open yet when we hurried inside away but they were happy to let us sit by the window as they continued preparations and we read the specials on their menu.

Within minutes of our seating, locals began to spill in for their Saturday brunches and we knew we had found a great place to eat and drink coffee.

Wooden interiors with minimalist decorative features like study table lamps on the walls and the occasional red coloured chair amongst the mix 'n match seating make for a spacious but cosy dining area.

Food selection consisted of the staple Portugese breakfast items with croissants or sandwiches, juices and coffees. Wei tried the big breakfast and it was very impressive with muesli, scrambled eggs, huge serves of cheese and meats with bread. They also have a brunch special which looked equally impressive. The house drink was a homemade lemonade which came in a variety of different blends. And I couldn't leave without trying one of their freshly baked cakes and pastries - the apple strudel was delicious!

Overall a lovely and affordable meal and a perfect spot for savouring life in a beautiful city like Lisbon. Plenty of people watching opportunities too with everything from yummy mummies tending to their fashionably attired infants to sweet older couples sharing desserts over coffees. A perfect Saturday morning to finish off my time in Portugal.

Longing for Long Hair...

Boy, it takes a long time to grow my hair out from it's Rihanna style. It's been about 2 years and finally its long...not long as back in it's former glory...but getting there. I'm hoping another 3 months and it'll be thick enough to style it. I really miss playing with styles and plaits. These photos make me wish for it to hurry up!

Review: Liaison cafe

After yoga on Friday... yes, yoga - how 'lady of leisure like'... my buddies and i went to a little alley in melbourne city to a cafe called 'liaison'. (Details here at Urbanspoon)

The location was quaint - the opposite wall (yes, wall) is the wall belonging to 'the melbourne club' - the famous mens club - no women allowed. even the governor general of australia (our quentin) is not allowed in even with free membership compliments of her GG position. and above the cafe is the embassy of monaco with flags and international-ness floating above our heads.

summary: this hole in the wall cafe with cute wall deco served delicious coffee. and apparently the chai latte is worthy. service was slow... with a dreamy 'i'm really an actor' smile from the barista. or should i say, service non-existent - during the morning rush of takeaway coffees, the banana bread didn't make it to our table.

nvr mind, did i mention the barista... who knows my chai latte swilling friend's name after a few visits? *sigh*

My one reason for considering Twitter

Kay and I stumbled upon this twitter account by Justin (http://twitter.com/shitmydadsays)
who writes down random comments his 73 year old father says...There are some gems in there. Apparently he has sold "Shit My Dad Says" as a book to Harper Collins last month and now this twitter fave is headed for the TV screen with CBS picking it up for a comedy project.

Some gems are:

"You worry too much. Eat some bacon... What? No, I got no idea if it'll make you feel better, I just made too much bacon." "Why the fuck would I want to live to 100? I'm 73 and shit's starting to get boring. By the way, there's no money left when I go, just fyi."

hilarious awesomeness...
I wish I could make my fortune on random parental sayings...
