Happy Friday

My last week left in Bendigo on my 3 month placement.
My school friends are coming up to visit and spend the weekend with me, yay!
I just love spending time with these amazing women. There will be lots of chatter, raucous laughter, too much good food and of course excellent company.

What will you be up to this weekend?

succulent wall art

these beautiful 'living art' installations by Flora Grubb are just inspirational.

i have posted before on succulents and i really do think they are a superb plant: each one looks like a piece of art and bonus! they are drought resistant and hardy. i would love to have a go of their DIY kits too. very very clever.

thanks to Oh Happy Day for the original posting!

not just a pretty face

i'm a long time fan of british model agyness 'aggy' deyn.

i love her pixie blonde crop, her punk rock styling and now i really love her magazine!

yes, she's the creative director at NAAG magazine an online publication. It is so cool simply because and is filled with tips on what's up in New York (isn't that a guarantee of cool?) and features fashion shoots with the Aggy herself.

the latest fashion shoot was in Disneyland - so Chris, if you're reading this - I know it's not Disneyworld but this post is dedicated to you. Even the cute can be given a cool rock edge with Aggy.

Board Game Theme Inspiration

I love the themes people come up with for editorials in magazines, especially the fashion ones. They are so innovative and i always feel you could turn it into a party theme.
I think this board game theme below from Vogue is amazingly executed and photographer Sebastian Gollings has an amazing eye. I can see this theme working for a wedding/event theme. Mahjong or board game pieces as centrepieces and then you can serve drinks on backgammon trays. Game on!

Alvin Lives on at Cinnamon Pig

Family favourite Alvin Quah from Masterchef has started his own foodie website! I'm so happy about this since the TV show is definitely not as fun to watch without his bubbly personality and hilarious comments. As a foodie fan here at Oddsundays, I'm sure we're going to be checking this out regularly. I can't wait to try some of his recipes!
Oh, the photography on it is very editorial and edgy. lovelovelove it! and the logo!
Nice Work Alvin!

Zara is Coming

Apparently the rumours are true. Zara is coming to Australia. As usual, Sydney will probably get the first store...but THEN in September 2011 it is coming to Melbourne! Isn't Melbourne suppose to be the "Fashion Capital"? If so, the flap ship Zara store for Australia better go to Melbourne first, in all its clothing awesomeness. Anyways, here's to celebrating their arrival!

oh swoon!

the above are her images and recipes for (from the top);

1) violet macarons with violet and vanilla bean buttercream
2) raspberry mascarpone macarons
3) matcha and peach pate de fruit macarons

(I thought it was a) Shark post for Charli

well the first time i saw this awesome ring i thought it was a shark fin and immediately thought of charli with her penchant for shark related items.

but on closer inspection in fact this is a claw ring designed by Dominic Jones and available at net-a-porter.com

still cool to me!

Mime vintage

I went shopping for a dress on the weekend - just cos.

And my basic 'trying on clothes' train of thought goes:
1. mm, that's Niiiice. let's try that on.
2. mm, i wish i didn't eat x, y, z OR i wish i exercised more the other day.
3. eh, who am i kidding? i loved eating x, y, z OR i enjoyed my free time that day.

but if i were to (really) wish for a model body and (truly) wear all the clothes i thought were nice - then i reckon i'd be like the mime vintage girls and model my own stuff too!!! Found these lovelies from NEET mag issue no. 15.

Postcards from Alphaville

This winter in melbourne has been so cold - all we do is stay in, wrap up, have supper (or second dessert) and watch movies.

Well movies are not wasted time - check out the art imitating art at postcards from alphaville.

Cornershop Cafe Yarraville

Had a date with the boy.
We went to the Cornershop in Yarraville (9 Ballarat St, Yarraville VIC 3013).
I had seen a review in theage and wasn't disappointed.
The coffee was tasty (although this assessment is by an unsophisticated coffee drinker! Still, the small group in front of us paying the bill bought 7 coffees so people had a few tasty rounds...).

We enjoyed the food (baked beans (~$13) and baked eggs (~$12)) and the noisy atmosphere on Saturday morning. full of yuppies and their younguns but the little tables still make it great for couples and singles.

Do visit!

Venomous Villains

MAC is releasing in September their Disney Venomous Villains Collection. Featuring Cruella De Vil, Snow White's Evil Queen, Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent & The Princess & the Frog's Dr Facilier. I love reading the names of the colours. (That has always been a dream job...to name colours.) Here are some of the wicked names:

"Darkly My Dear" - Cruelle De Vil's Brown Plum Blush
"Vainglorious" - Evil Queen's Bronze Eyeshadow
"Wrong Spell" - Maleficient's Deep Plum with Pink Purple Lipglass

Who on earth is Dr. Facilier? Who's watched The Princess & the Frog??! Should have been Ursula from Little Mermaid!! And if they needed a dude, Captain Hook or Jafar....
Besides that...I'm excited about the collection

Happy Friday

bring back more 80's classic tributes i say! this image is titled: "something strange, in your beverage". it works best if you say it with the same emphasise on the syllables like the original ghostbuster's theme song.

love it!

my worse ring nightmare

when the boy asked about engagement ring preferences, one thing i was certain about was that it wouldn't be raised up with the diamond capable of catching on things or putting me at risk of scratching my face...something i am akin to doing unfortunately.

so in my opinion this ring by Tobias Wong via Yanko designs, must be my ring antithesis: raised AND with an upside-down diamond. The product description states the "diamond sharp edge will...cut skin down to the bone". *gulp

i'd hate to think what damage i might do to myself let alone others with this baby.

so thank you so much to my boy for NOT buying this ring for me!

Chartreuse Mood

This post is dedicated to the colour Chartreuse after watching What happens in Vegas (re: Diaz's evening dress- I think the lighting is bright in this shot- I remember it being greener).
We were having a discussion what colour was it. Was it green or was it yellow? It's that in between colour. Whatever it is, I wish I had the skin tone to pull off Chartreuse.
