sweet tyre tracks

how gorgeous are these tyres?

the boy sent these images to me via one of his geeky websites gizmodo.

they are just enough geek and enough cute for me!

these tyres are called 'Spread You Love' by Hamed Kohan and they were shortlisted in the 'Seoul Cycle Design' competition.

imagine if it were raining and you spread little heart shapes all over the pavement as you cycled around town.

Dark statement necklace

Check out Makenzie Vega and her necklace - so pretty...
I like the contrast. A bit different from shiny (costume) statement necklaces.

Diamonds are nice ofc.

Chalkboard Napkin Rings

Found this great idea at Remo General Store. Napkin rings painted with chalkboard paint. This would be great for a dinner party as name tags or menu tags... Perfect for those American weddings where you collect your own place cards at the reception. That is, if you can guarantee that no stray sleeves will accidentally wipe off the chalk...

It comes with a sleek slate chalk pencil. How cool does that look? I want that pencil.
Now my next question is, how dusty will the napkins/plates/careless sleeves get with these things?

Hipsters: in or out?

If you were a teenager in the 90's, I reckon you were a hipster by default (or... maybe it was just me) - but we can all relate to it now cos it's happening again.

RW showed me this video last week which he found on an online The Age article and I watched it twice. We philosophised that if hipsters were cool, then surely they're no longer hipsters. I quite like the hipster look - the not-so-new clothes, the bikes, the 'orange penguin covered' literature - but i'm going to say i like it 'to an extent' until the craze quietens the heck down again.

DIY flowergirl flowers

I have decided to make flowers to decorate the flowergirl dresses that mum sewed.

After trawling through the web for fabric flower patterns, the ever perfect Martha Stewart delivered the goods and served as my inspiration for the flowers.

I began with fabric from the dresses and then added some black tulle for contrast and light pink tulle for texture.

After cutting out the petals I folded the flowers over into half and then half again. I secured this 'bundle' with a couple of stitches.

Then I lightly arranged the individual petals to give the flower fullness.

Now I'll attached them to the dresses.

So easy!

pressies part 2

kidrobot is the ultimate toy shop for grown ups!

as the packaging states: 'this is a work of art, not a toy'

absolutely!

the boy returned from NY and brought back a couple of 'surprise' figurines from their Zoomies collection. we opened them with bated breath and were absolutely stoked to find we had our favourite character Ed the tow truck driving Rhino, equipped with his little spanner wrench and birdie friend! The other figurine is Le Evil Fritz who is an equally cool character. On his license and information card it states that he becomes the evil doppelganger of the main character, the German lion Fritz if he doesn't get his coffee! He then becomes an obnoxious Frenchman who only eats baguettes and brie! So cute. The figurine comes with a lovely piece of brie!

check out the website for more of the collectibles from the kidrobot world.

Eraser Sushi Cuteness

Babysat the little cousin on the weekend and they showed me their eraser collection. How impressive are these?!! There's sushi, nigiri, milkshakes, dumplings, cakes & donuts...It's ridiculously cute. They can even be taken apart into segments. Totally beats my simple teddy bear eraser I had in grade 3 that I actually used and it's leg fell off, leaving me with a crippled teddy. I cried.

Minimalist Music Posters

Discovered: Graphic Designer Federuci Mancosu
Created: Awesome minimalist music posters that you can buy. He's also done some for movie posters but the dude is italian so I can't recognise any of the italian films (though they are still awesome as artwork in themselves.)

Review: Made Cafe Flemington

My sister was visiting from 'Kal' in WA and wanted a 'Melburnian breakfast'. There's a bit of choice in Flemington but we honed in on Made Cafe (60 Pin Oak Crescent) cos it looked kinda cool with the messy interior design, open sunny aspect, newspapers strewn everywhere and bleary eyed coffee hunters lining up one by one for takeaway coffee.

I found the service a bit slow. The wait-ladies were friendly but we didn't know whether to order at the counter then they took awhile to clear the table then they took a little longer with food.

But the coffee is tasty and the food was freshly made. I got the toasted banana bread - 2 slices! - with nutella and fresh bananas, pistachios and honey. My sister got the in-vogue baked eggs dish (but no chorizo mind).

Long relaxed breakfast on the weekend is a given at this place.

Tim Burton Exhibition

I got invited to the Tim Burton exhibition at ACMI and I was actually really impressed with Mr. Burton. I have always been a fan of his movies and styling but I actually didnt know the man could draw. After 4 years studying at the Walt Disney studio, the man is good. Kay told me to take photos but of course, you're not allowed.
So I took a quick snap of the entrance whilst
a.) trying to not look tourist-y
b.) trying not to embarrass my friend next to me
c.) trying to NOT get the ticket dude in the shot (I didnt succeed with this point.)

I loved Burton's sketches of rooms. It was difficult to find an image of my favourite one. But that room sketch above right is similar to the mood of the drawing that I was drawn to. So inspired I was, I did a few more sketches in my book to develop that weekend. Hopefully an update to follow with that!

alexa chung sketches

I'm sure I've mentioned that Alexa Chung is one of my style icons.
And as usual, she is extending her style skills to the fashion world.

It's NY fashion week next week and as part of their feature, daily candy featured Alexa Chung's sketches that are featured in her line for Madewell. Yes, the girl can design and illustrate too.

Not just a pretty face indeed but did you expect any less really?

Happy Friday!

I'm not a fan of rock climbing. Mostly because of the equation of
harness + rock climbing = uncomfortable wedgies.
I would like rock climbing if all the walls were like this!
How alice through the looking glass is this?!

Are you busy?

Friend A: Hey, how're you going?
Friend B: Not bad thanks. You?
Friend A: Yeah ok. Are you busy?
Friend B: Yeah work's been nuts.

When your regular conversation with friends runs this stream several times over, you gotta wonder - are ya working too hard? are you really living your God-given years? Point to ponder hey.

Shirt/dress

You've been told it's a classic - the shirt dress. however, nowadays with tights and leggings, i reckon shirts have invaded shirt dress territory... and hopefully the general rules between 'em hold firm going into spring.

aside from a little leg sometimes - c'mon, is that the reinforced part of your hose? - you have to be fairly long and lithesome to wear shirt dresses cos of the 'pregnancy' factor. I will persist though. shirt dresses are comfy.

DIY with Wine Bottles

Countdown till Kay's kitchen tea begins. I've been collecting wine bottles for kay's kitchen tea to use as vases and water bottles. I'm going to create labels to print and cover the old label. I thought I'll do some research to get the creative juices going to see what else I could do with the ol' wine bottles.

Scarf tips

I have always admired those who wear neck scarves.

This great video by the Liberty London was originally posted by Beklina (who also sell adorable clothes, accessories and home wares - check out their shop and blog) and is demonstrates a great way to wear your scarf.

And don't you just love her french accent? And how adorable are her glasses too. It is all just so lovely to watch.

Edge Painting + Business Cards

Doing some research some business cards at the moment and stumbled upon the awesome technique of edge painting. Why have I just found out about this?! It adds this gorgeous touch of lux to the card! I'm not sure about costings for this but I would love to be able to go down this direction for my future personal business cards I'm working on. These would be great for wedding place cards too!
