Pictures on walls

(Lucy Fenton - The Design Files)

(Penelope Durston - The Design Files)

(Olivia Tipler - The Design Files)

I am thinking of changing up my living/dining room wall. I have one blank white wall so I'm weighing up the modern (might not match the old light fittings...) vs nothing (it's a small room...) vs vintage clutter (might as well make the most of the cosiness...). Here are some really nice ideas from The Design Files. Some people's homes are so stylish!

Peanut butter and jelly card

How adorable. Shame this card was already sold out because I discovered it too late! I love the 'squish' at the end.

Happy Friday.

Chromosome lollies

The three of us were involved in a trivia night at the end of last year. On my team there were a whole group of friends in health related jobs including myself...and YET not one of us could remember how many chromosomes we have. Not one of us. Embarassing. Sorry professors from uni!?

Now if we had been taught to use sour worm lollies and model our chromosomes, maybe (very tentative and unlikely...i would have just eaten the lollies) we would have answered that question correctly. Meanwhile over on Deenie's table with her law friends, they knew the answer and creamed us in the quiz. So very impressed by their performance. I feel smart by association with her on this blog : )

Jason Wu wedding dresses

it's coming to be a busy time for weddings with Charli and also my sister-in-law all searching for their dresses...it's exhausting work (for them!)...i remember those days fondly : )

here are the latest lovely collection of wedding dresses from Jason Wu available at net-a-porter.com

i think the non-traditional take on weddings gives girls so much more flexibility. separates and dress options are such a great way to individualise your look. These dresses are very classic and timeless. who doesn't like an opportunity to wear a bit of ostrich feather too? I'd wear them with a dash of colour such as some feature shoes and if you can pull it off, a bit of red lippy!

T-shirt tea bags

Can't stop thinking about tea related topics at the moment as I plan Charli's kitchen tea party!

I found these ingenious tea bags designed on little hangers. How adorable!

Lamb's Ear Love

I love lamb's ear. Went to bunnings to get some and future aunt-in-law gave me some from her Daylesford place. They're my new obsession (besides succulents). I definitely want them somewhere in my decorations!

Star Wars Cookie Cutters

Now I know that is is not in keeping with Charli's theme for the kitchen tea but how can I not post this find for the geeks among us!

How cool are these Star Wars shaped products from William-Sonoma. We have sandwich cutters, cookie cutters and even pancake molds. Can you imagine what children get to eat every conceivable food in the shape of Yoda's head? Better not let my boy see this one. We may be eating storm trooper pancakes every morning!

That being said, that icing detailing looks like a bit of work and may require a bit of artistic skill! {via thekitchn}

Hair-spiration

I want to create these kinds of hairdos more...and more successfully. A better quality hairspray is probably in order. Bobby pins are usually escaping the do by mid-afternoon.
These hair styles looks so, "oh, this? 5mins I whipped it up and walked out the door"

Kitchen Tea ideas

So as matron (eek! matron!?) of honour to Charli, I get the privilege of organising her kitchen tea. We still need to post pics of the amazing event she set up for my kitchen tea. It set the bar very high I have to admit so I'm feeling the pressure is on!

I'm hoping for an Alice in Wonderland themed Matt Hatter's tea party and how great are these gingerbread biscuits? Now I need to look for those cookie cutters!

DIY: White lace nailpolish...Again

This blog is a great archive system! We featured this tutorial last year but I just remembered this white lace nailpolish tut. I reckon this would be great for my bridesmaids!!! how fun would this be? This would totally suit their dresses...or at least rocknroll-afy it a lil.
I'm excited!

Kay found a cool photo of lacquered black lace nails. We decided to experiment with white lace, which we were both pleasantly surprised.

First we cut the lace out into roughly the size of the nail using fabric scissors. We found it was safer to cut the lace a little smaller than the nail- saves you having to trim it down afterwards.

Next, we used OPI clear top coat as a base coat. Whilst the nailpolish is still tacky, we apply the lace on top of the nail. We finished with another coat of clear nailpolish to seal the lace into place.
After it dried, we used mini scissors (from those manicure sets) to trim off any fray ends.

White lace nailpolish!

Update: It does get a little fuzzy by the third day so I'll probably have to do them a day before the wedding.

Cute cheese!

I know this is a totally random post but lately...post-wedding and having a new kitchen to play with...i've been all food blog obsessed! It was really cool to cook for Deenie and her boy on Christmas and to have Charli just come over on the weekend so I could experiment a new baked risotto recipe.

So as I galloped my way around the web, I stumbled across this awesome but time consuming DIY involving those cute baby bell cheeses. I haven't seen or eaten these since I was a kid. So cute. They have different hairdos!

Pantone App Love

My latest app discovery is myPantone. It's genius (well almost...) You take any photo and it will reveal it's colour scheme complete with it's Pantone number for your future reference. If you don't like one of the colours selected, you can use the eyedropper and select the colour you want and replace the offending colour. My only issue is that, the colours selected are a lot duller than it appears. Maybe I used low res photos but it seems to never pick a nice bright red for example.

This has been great for getting inspiration for wedding colour schemes. Actually, it was too inspiring and I was swamped with gorgeous palette choices.

Chanel Inspired Table

I'm trying to explain the mood I want to my florist and it's kindof been tough. I have a feeling guys use the word 'rustic' to encompass 'vintage' or 'just not modern' so I was worried when the word rustic popped up. I was going....Noooo...rustic is like countryside old...I want...and then I stumbled upon Swanky Tables and I figured a picture is worth a thousand of my bumbling words.
Hello Chanel inspired table setting!

I heart hipstamatic

True to my word, when asked which iPhone app he could not live without, the boy said 'hipstamatic'. There's a reason it was the number one selling app in 2010!

And it's true, we love that app so much. It's right in keeping with our retro-vintage photography styling 'zone' we are currently experiencing. Over at photojojo, they have also been riding the hipstamatic high and created a wall of the 336 possible film+lens+flash combos available on the app. What results is your guide to hipstamatic and a really cool wall of photos. Check it out! It's really impressive (and a lot of work too!).

genius film canister invites

We are such photography crazed folk here in my home and Charli bought us our very own Holga camera for a wedding present! So exciting. We will get our first roll of 12omm medium format film developed very very soon.

So when the boy (yes, the boy!) forwarded me this link from his fave tech rss feed gizmodo, i was so excited because what better way to move forward in our love for photography than to embrace the past and revive good ol' film. These wedding invites were for a couple who love photography and now i wish we had thought of this idea ourselves too! They took old film canisters and reloaded them with their invitations. So adorable. Designed by Ambient Studio.

wedding and holiday part 6 - post wedding shots

After the wedding we had some photos taken around Bali - it was heaps of fun!
As mentioned in an earlier post, one of our dedicated photographers lost his slippers to the paddy field we were in.

We started at a 4am for sunrise on the beaches of Sanur then we travelled to stated paddy field in Canggu and then further north to Echo Beach for a spot of breakfast and more photos with chalkboards and polaroids. On the way home, we stopped to try Kopi Luwak - famed and yes, very good coffee.
