DIY: Succulent Fishbowls

Here are my succulent fishbowls I made for the bridal table last month. I was so happy with them. They ended up also being my gift to my bridesmaids.
So here goes...DIY TUTORIAL
THINGS YOU NEED
1. Succulents. I got mine from a friendly old man who sells from his backyard. He farted when he picked these pots up for me. I had to hold my breath just in case.
2. Pebbles. I got a small pack from Bunnings...prob overpriced there...
3. Fishbowls. Make sure you clean them well before you start
METHOD
1. Place pebbles at the bottom of the fishbowl to allow drainage of water
2. Then place about an inch of soil in the fish bowl
3. Cut a segment of the succulent and place in the middle of the fishbowl
4. Cover soil with pebbles. I used only the paler pebbles for a cleaner finish.

TIP: Use a chopstick to move pebbles into hard to reach places like under succulent petals. It also stops you from accidentally snapping off a petal with your fingers. Press pebbles slightly down so them don't move around when you're transporting it around
5.Done!

Finders Keepers Market 2011

Today I trundled over to the Finders Keepers Market 2011 at Docklands, Melbourne.  I was looking forward to it all week - needed some retail therapy and some inspiration from people doing what they love.

It was a wintry sort of day - the air was icy - thankfully it was warmish inside the shed.  When I arrived at 12.30pm, there were plenty of people wandering in and out - all sorts really - and all interested in cool and fabulous things.  I walked in to the sounds of the live band playing and couldn't wait to start browsing.  I did the first round slowly and was tempted by plenty of great things - jewellery, bags, stationery, clothes.  The lights of the shed went out briefly so I thought about what stood out for me while I stood in the relative dark.

I finally settled on these earrings (the size was perfect) and a necklace (handmade love):

I think being a small business owner/idea maker/creator is an interesting job - a large majority of them stallholders were youngish - perhaps the effort and passion burns brighter when you're that age!

Mac Wonder Woman Collection

Stuck in Changi Airport 2 weeks ago and I got to thoroughly browse the new Mac Wonder Woman collection. The merchandising looked so awesome and as usual, the product names are so cool you want to buy it just for the name. My favourites were: 'Obey Me' (bright red nail polish), 'Secret Identity' (pearly copper lipgloss) and 'Defiance' (white/pink eyeshadow)

Charli's Wedding Part 2

More pictures from the wedding. My favourite DIY was the 200 butterfly placecards I cut out by hand and hand wrote and decorated (my only bridezilla moment of insisting on doing it myself.) They turned out amazing! Oh, and I also got my dream birdcage centrepieces!
The whole day with perfect but it's soo true, it goes by soo fast.
Big thanks to all the photos taken by Saiful, Robin & Joel. They all have such a great eye for capturing moments and details.
More to come... :)

I have found a new daily read blog called Sometime Friend, run by Melissa Dixson, a Brooklyn-based artist! One of the latest posts is an awesome discovery from New York's Armory Show.

South African artist Frances Goodman‘s hand-embroidered works on satin are inspired by vandalism she encounters in public toilets. The series, titled ‘Toilet Graffiti’ documents the way in which (some of us) anonymously mark our territory, confess love, rant, etc.

Goodman states ‘the labour and intensity of hand-embroidering these anonymous, dirty ‘nothings’, reveal a voyeuristic fascination with other people’s sordid fantasies and inner monologues’.

Better to Say Too Much?

Do you think this is true? On the other hand, our words can get us into a lot of trouble...Either way, I reckon there's gonna be regret.

Alexa Chung creative

So Alexa Chung is credited with being an amazing style icon.

I'm pretty sure she's the reason I've been seeing these white collars around Melbourne. (I've seen detachable ones in the shops if you're so inclined.)

(Alexa for Madewell)

And you might have heard of the Mulberry bag named after Alexa... in clutch form... and in full form...

If I were to spend a grand-ish on a bag, I'd go this bag. Its practical! It's not because Alexa is wearing it! (not)

our lil lady ties the knot

Well it started out with showers of rain and it ended with tears of joy! Charli tied the knot with her boy on at a beautiful wedding on an overcast Sunday afternoon in Melbourne.

Charli did so much work to make this DIY wedding everything she could dream it to be. And she certainly accomplished a vintage yet high class and sophisticated event. Photos to come but she got those succulents and snow berries in her bouquet and the bird cages were fantastic on the tables. And of course not to mention she looked amazing in her princess dress and veil (mum made it!)

There was a kinda "odd" moment (and the wedding was on a Sunday so it was an "odd sunday" moment...somebody stop me!) when a couple of completely random passers by outside the church came up to the newly wed couple to congratulate them and ask if they could make a traditional Egyptian 'noise' that is usually made at weddings...Charli obliged and they made this loud warbling throaty call! It was strange and yet, very thoughtful! So there you go! Everybody just LOVES a wedding.

Congrats Charli! My lil sister all grown up and married...that's our last odd sunday lady married off!
