Anon Pairot designs

I went to the Singapore Furniture expo on the way back from Malaysia last month to check out the latest in the uber chic furniture world. My eyes were drawn to this amazing limited edition chair by Anon Pairot.
I can totally see this in an Alexander McQueen or Vivienne Westwood showcase boutique or window display.
Here are some more of their breath-taking designs. It's total couture meets furniture. I love their concepts and how they turn it into a consumable high end industrial product. They are almost art sculptures that have a surreal beautiful ambience about them.

Time travel chart

I really enjoy checking out the latest Visualisation chart by the team over at Information is Beautiful. They have a great way of extracting out interesting facts and compiling them into graphically beautiful charts that are full of clever information that most of us haven't thought about before.

In this very geeky chart, the time lines taken from all the most popular movies and tv shows like Star Trek or Back to the Future are charted. Most clever are the points of intersection called 'Ultra Paradox' when two shows would have encountered one another when their timelines collided!

Check out the link for larger images and to find out how they created the images. You can even buy the prints.

Fog Linen

You know those beautiful Japanese sewing books? The ones with sparse pictures, linen clothes, rosy cheeked subdued perfect girls and all those patterns in strangely decipherable patterns?

Well here's Fog Linen who probably/maybe show their products in these cool books - which in turn inspires what I love about sewing. While they do clothes, homestyle products, I went straight for the bags.

Did you know this?

I have a vague feeling I have heard of this fact before but did you know that the colour of your bread tag indicates the day of the week that your bread was baked?

Simple but fascinating.

Or I am easily amused. I do have to say this is an american source so perhaps it doesn't apply to aussie bread.

Autumn fashion picks

Can you tell which one is last year's look? Maybe being from Perth, WA means I'll always be a little behind but I like the second one for this year. These handpicked looks (by me) are from Marni's autumn ready to wear 2011 and 2010 respectively. I probably only picked them cos I like sleeves on my outfits (I have arms from the non-muscular/lithe gene pool!). Check out more runway looks if you want a dose of fantasy (sorry, I mean, inspiration) at Elle.com.

A builder's bracelet

Gotta give this a go one day - how freakin' awesome. Having my own place means I have spare nuts (and bolts) you know, everywhere. Impressed? Yeah, no, I lie. But when the inevitable trip to the hardware store comes round, I know what I'm getting.

Check out the tutorial at HonestlyWTF (DIY braided hex hut bracelet). The blog is awesome too.

Cate Blanchett meets Romance was Born

Check out the latest photoshoot with Cate Blanchett wearing Romance Was Born. As a big fan of Romance was Born designs, their use of explosive colours and textures is no surprise. It's experimental couture yet still bohemian romantic. Stunning as usual! It doesn't hurt that Blanchett could wear a garbage bag and make it look couture. lovelovelove.

Manchester Press

Oh we are so spoilt for choice with our coffees and cafes here in Melbourne.

I heard about Manchester Press in a lane way off a lane way (how Melbourne right?) which serves up excellent quality coffees and a food menu that is simple but delicious.

With the weather warming up lately, I was pleased to have my sunny day off to explore Melbourne. I did take a little while to find this little gem but now I know, I'll be going back for certain. I just beat the lunchtime crowd and secured a seat at the big communal table to the side. Staff were very friendly and attentive so I immediately ordered my soy latte as I perused the menu which is printed on a clear sheet of perspex covered with the word punched out in those old school label makers. Very retro and cool. Just like the whole decor and staff : )

Food consists of a range of open bagel sandwiches with your choice of bread and filling. All $12 and while I had the yummy Avocado and Fetta bagel, the girl sitting opposite me had the smoked salmon bagel and that made me jealous. There are also cakes and slices!

And back to the coffee: Excellent. With an amazing piece of latte art of a cute little man. I enjoyed seeing everybody's responses to their coffees. We were all duly impressed at the barista's artwork.

I can't wait to see what latte art I'll get on my next visit.

The truth about caffeine and calories

This poster from Information is Beautiful (click link for a bigger image!) illustrates most popular caffeinated drinks (ok mostly of the US variety) charted according to caffeine level and calorie intake.

Happy to say that my preferred beverages are nice and down the bottom with the calorie count but still buzzy enough with the caffeine levels.

Check out the calories though in those frappacinos!

Charli's kitchen tea DIY

It is a little bit after the event but I wanted to post these tea cup gifts we made for her Mad Hatter's themed kitchen tea party.

1) Firstly to keep with the theme of using playing cards, I glued a stack of cards to pink card board for the gift tag.

2) Charli designed a thank you gift tag and we hole punched the cards and tags and tied them with ribbon for attachment to the present.

3) We found these red Chinese tea cups as gifts. We filled cellophane bags with loose leaf tea in an assortment of flavours: Jasmine, Vanilla Jasmine and Rose tea. Then we popped a bag into each tea cup.

4) We then wrapped the whole tea cup with another square of cellophane and secured the top with the ribbon and gift tags. Ta da!

Apologies for the photo quality. I only had my phone with me at the time of production!

Happy Friday

Can the world get enough of macarons? I think not.

And here are some macarons from La Fuji Mama that show you while seemingly delicate and refined, these sweets can still be converted into a food type that is practically the opposite in nature to the french confectionary art - a big mac. why? it doesn't matter. it IS impressive.

Happy Friday!

Let's be cool like Ricor

Kay, Charli and me have recently been involved with taking portraits of churchgoers to fundraise for a church building fund. How awesome if we went in this artistic direction! Yeah - probably can't hit the high notes that Ricor has hit in her portfolio, but let's be inspired!

I Heart Shoes

So happy with my first shoe purchase as a married lady :P
It's like I'm wearing my heart on my shoes. Or I'm channelling the Melissa Vivienne Westwood shoes. I'm going to have fun accessorising with them!
Oh Happy Days!
