This is the solution to the bottom two issues raised. Classified is a gorgeous little french inspired cafe right next door to our apartment. Staff are friendly and speak english (check one) and the coffee is good (check two).
I think a new favorite haunt may have been discovered. Trouble is getting a table. Always packed out, this place is clearly not a well kept secret at all. They open late til 10.30pm like all good asian hospitality venues should.

I'm going to HK for the first time ever. I'm a bit nervous about it. When I started reading your post I grew even more worried. But by the time I'd finished I was really glad to know that there's somewhere to go like this. Thanks for the good post.
