The Obliteration Room by Yayoi Kusama
Fantastic idea at GoMA (Queensland Gallery of Modern Art)! Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama, created
a set of rooms where every surface, furnishing and ornament was painted white. Over two weeks, kids were given thousands of
colour dot stickers and invited to add their creative touch towards transforming the white space into one explosion of colour.

Vivienne Westwood for Melissa
Don't wanna sound superficial but nothing cheers me up like a new pair of shoes!
I finally stumbled (pun intended) upon some blue Vivienne Westwood for Melissa Ultragirl V11 cameo ballet flats! I've always been a fan of Melissa shoes! They are these awesome plastic shoes from Brazil
that Westwood has designed for, through her Anglomania brand.

My own Melissas!
Unfortunately, my poor Melissas gave me blisters so I best be wearing them with stockings or socks...but with Melbourne winter setting in, the more layers, the better!

Learning The Alphabet with Star Wars
This is what happens when you get two freelance designers (link here) who want to teach the alphabet in an geeky, original way.
It's Star Wars meets play school - they have designed the whole alphabet list with characters from the original Star Wars trilogy (cos we all pretend those prequels never happened.)
Called ‘A is for Ackbar’, the entire list was a collaboration between the married couple—with Mr. Peat sketching the characters and Mrs. Peat in-charge of colouring.

Knitted teddy bear
With the days getting shorter and the TV being my companion most of the time, it's nice to whip up something quite easy with the ol' knitting needles with an easy pattern. And the product might be semi-useful - kids like toys yeah.
Pattern from an old Lincraft catalogue. There are other free teddy bear projects on their website (not this pattern for some reason though...) (lincraft.com.au).
I stuffed the teddy bear with poly fill (the crunchy kind not the hobby fill). The bear works out to be about the size of a adult hand. I used this cute merino 4ply wool that I doubled up and just some leftover white wool. I didn't bother with using thread to mark out the legs and neck. I like it kinda chubby.

Tutorial: Square bead necklace
![]() |
| Materials, Step 1-2 |

| Steps 3-4 and finished necklace |
You'll need about 40in of cotton thread x 3. You will be plaiting the strings to make a nice rope. I salvaged the square beads from an op shop purchase, and found some small round black beads from a broken necklace. The holes of the beads need to be relatively large to thread through 3 strings.
Step 1: String the round and square beads through the three threads. You might need a needle like a cross stitch needle (a bit thicker than a regular needle with a rounded tip).
Step 2: Hold two ends of the threads together so the beads dangle about mid-way. Put the peg on one end to hold it in that mid-way position. Then you're going to knot (just regular knot) and keep knotting until the round bead can't move past it. I knotted twice. If this bit is hard cos the hole in the bead is too big, plait the thread and then try knotting again. Then knot the thread on the other side of the beads.
Step 3: Secure one end of the thread with the peg to something heavy on your table so you can plait the thread as tight as you like. Tighter plaits make stiffer rope and vice versa. Then plait the other side. Leave a bit of the threads at the ends not plaited so you can do step 4.
Step 4: Knot once. Slip a round bead on. Knot a couple of times and try to tuck the ends in. Given it's cotton thread, I didn't burn the loose bits at the end to it's really secure. I just cut them. (You might know better ways of finishing up!)
Ta-da!

Miffy lamp
I've posted about the lifestyle and homewards store Homeless before (here to be precise!). We love it. And finally, we have made a purchase from its wares to decorate the nursery/our bedroom...again why we use the baby as an excuse for these things we would buy for ourselves regardless I don't know.
But how sweet is this new addition to the home?
I have it pictured here in the store with the other two size options. We ummm'd and ahhhh'd over the lovely cloud Miffy but felt it was dimmer than the standing one and also potentially more difficult to install and even dangerous? So we settled for the smaller standing lamp. Below is a pic of it next to my favourite toy from childhood who made the journey to Hong Kong with us and will similarly decorate the nursery. Look how small it looks next to the lamp!

Vintage fabric earrings and brooch
I got these ace vintage fabric earrings and brooch from my two best buddies from work. I'm off on maternity leave and they treated me (and not the baby!) - how thoughtful! The brooch is from Tiger Tree - these rock huh?
